Let's look a bit more at "stress"….
Stress is a sensation. Stress is the sensation you get in your mind and/or your body when the total demands on your system are too much for your resources.
It is intended to be uncomfortable so that you sort out this imbalance! It is trying to HELP YOU!

STRESS IS A WARNING!
|
|
Stress is like a smoke alarm! Ignore it and you will, eventually, 'burn your house down', so to speak!
|
Stress Management
Looking at our analogy above, 'Stress management' can be like taking the batteries out of the smoke alarm!
Another good analogy is if you have a big loan to repay. To pay off the loan you need to do something radical to earn the money. An evening job in a bar is a positive step but it is unlikely to make any great dent in the debt.
So unless you do something more drastic you won't be able to pay the loan back and you will start to get threatening messages very frequently from whoever lent you the money. Stress is like those messages...

Scooping is not Resolving
Of course the messages make you feel uncomfortable - the point is you still need to clear the loan! Scooping away at the debt won't make much difference because the interest will keep increasing and eventually something will 'crack'.
Stress management is good for 'scooping' and better to scoop than not to scoop…… unless the 'scooping' means that you lose sight of what you really need to change….

Many forms of stress management dissipate stress
but they don't address the fundamental causes - they simply MANAGE the stress and don't address the reasons why the system is so short of extra resources relative to demands in the first place!
|
|
So don't just manage stress. Resolve it!
|
Stress resolution
In order to resolve stress first it needs to be really understood biologically and how it affects the body and the mind.
Then it is essential to understand for each person, what is causing their stress, understanding why their 'system' is short of the required resources relative to their demands.
|
|
The next essential step is to know how to increase that person's resources and robustness so that their 'system' does not suffer stress.
In other words, to resolve stress you need to understand stress
and understand what to do about it.
We have that understanding. We can resolve stress.
And the great news is……. so can you!
